A CBCT scan or cone-beam computed tomography scan can be beneficial to your doctor in visualizing the overall view of your entire mouth, jaw, nasal, and throat areas. A CBCT creates 3D images that show bone, airway, and soft tissue. It uses less radiation and is considered very safe. During a CBCT scan, the imaging machine slowly rotates around your entire head. While taking only about 20-40 seconds, the CBCT scan is quick and painless. During the few seconds of scanning, over 150 images are taken and then put together to make a single 3D picture for your doctor to view.
A CBCT scan is an important part of treatment planning implant placement surgery as its success is best determined with as much knowledge as possible ahead of surgery. This way, potential problems could be addressed beforehand or avoided altogether.
